Modern Foreign Languages

Cullercoats follow North Tyneside’s Primary Language schemes of work.

At primary age, children are still very malleable and receptive to learning a language and it is proven that a young child’s brain is uniquely well adapted for language learning, especially in the first 10 years of life. Languages are statutory in Key Stage 2; however, at Cullercoats we introduce French in Nursery and Key Stage 1. In Nursery and Key Stage 1 French is taught through games, songs and drama. In Key Stage 2 there is a focus on: Speaking and Listening, Reading, Writing and Grammar.
