Governing Body’s Annual Impact Statement 2024
Our Governors
Born and bred in Whitley Bay, Gavin has worked in North Tyneside for his whole teaching career having spent 17 years teaching in Killingworth before being appointed at Cullercoats in the summer of 2008. Gavin has been involved with schools' football since the early 1990's and is a Youth Sports Trust Headteacher Ambassador.
"My name is Christina Black and I have been involved in education all of my working life. My career commenced as a teacher in a high school in North Tyneside and I continued my career, working in four middle schools in North Tyneside and Northumberland.
I was appointed as headteacher of a Northumberland middle school and enjoyed working there for seven years, before moving back to North Tyneside to take up a headship at another middle school, where I remained for a further seven years.
In 2014 I joined Northumberland County Council again, this time as a School Improvement Partner (SIP) and remained there until I retired in 2023. During my time as a SIP, I was privileged to work in many schools across the County and with some wonderful headteachers, staff, governors, parents and children.
I have always been, and remain, passionate about education and in doing what I can to help enrich the opportunities provided for young people and supporting schools to deliver the best possible experiences for their staff, children and community."
Andrew is a Department Head for DT in a secondary school in South Tyneside and has three children within the school.
He has a good working knowledge of the curriculum, data, safeguarding and reporting.
Andrew volunteers for Sustrans and has a keen interest in sustainable travel, safer streets and the environment.
"I am a Past pupil of the school. It was during my childhood in Cullercoats Primary school where I developed my love of sport and fitness and became inspired to become a Primary school teacher. I teach in a catholic school in the West End of Newcastle. I have taught across Early years, Key stage 1&2. I have recently completed my Forest school level 3.
I have three boys, two of them currently in Cullercoats and one in Marden High.
I love the Community feel in Cullercoats and hope that as a Governor I can support the school in continuing to provide exciting and engaging opportunities to learn."
Paul works for the UK's largest charitable funder of voluntary and community sector organisations.
Paul's main skills lie in grant making, contract management and procurement and partnership management.
Paul has two pupils in the school and is part of the Curriculum Sub Committee.
Helen is a former Local Authority manager in Education for a neighbouring Authority.
Helen has experience in SEND, Equalities Act compliance, pupil Hospital teaching and teaching pupils with English as an Additional Language.
Helen is the governor for safeguarding and SEND.
"I have worked at Cullercoats Primary since 2020. I have had many different roles across the school in my time here and I am currently a KS1 class teacher. I also oversee the PSHE curriculum.
I am passionate about providing the best education for our children to ensure they reach their full potential and be the best they can be."
Richard is an experienced strategic marketer, who has worked in the education sector for a number of years. He currently works at a local University as Head of Marketing, Communications and Student Recruitment.
Richard has been a Co-opted Governor since 2018, and is Chair of the Finance and Staffing Sub Committee, Chair of the Communications and Public Relations Sub Committee and ensures GDPR compliance across our School.
Brett is a Chartered Surveyor currently working as a Director of a property development and regeneration consultancy. Prior to that he was Head of Property at North Tyneside Council, bringing a range of property, facilities, health and safety expertise, finance and business management skills to the governor role.
He has a son who is in Year 2 at Cullercoats Primary, and was previously a governor for 5 years at a primary school in Wallsend.
Brett is a member of the Safeguarding, Premises and Health and Safety Sub Committee.
Ann has over 20 years’ experience of working in the FE and HE sector with a focus on widening participation and progression to HE.
Currently working at Newcastle University, Ann has responsibility for overseeing the University's UK Recruitment and Widening Participation Access Activity, and Admissions.
Ann is a member of the PR and Communications Sub Committee.
Karen is a Health, Safety and Facilities Manager for a large global firm. A former governor for ten years with an SEN school in Newcastle, Karen has brought her governor knowledge and experience closer to home.
Karen has two grandsons in Cullercoats Primary School.
Karen is a Mental Health First Aider and is keen to promote and support mental well-being within the school. Karen is a member of the Safeguarding, Premises and Health and Safety Sub Committee.
Stan is a retired Headteacher who has worked in education for 36 years in North Tyneside, Northumberland and North Yorkshire. Stan has a wealth of experience from working in a range of different schools from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
Stan is a member of the Finance and Staffing Sub Committee and is a respected football referee at district and county level. He has recently officiated at two International Walking Football Tournaments.
